Good Morning,

Please see the below weather update from NWS New Orleans / Baton Rouge concerning the heavy rain threat today through Friday.

 

  • Flood Watch is in effect from January 24, 06:00 AM until January 25, 06:00 AM.
  • Timing for the main threat will be Wednesday through Friday as storms become more widespread, entering from the west and may slow down leading to the risk of flash flooding.
    • Greatest concerns for flash flooding generally from Baton Rouge, LA to McComb, MS.
  • Rivers are expected to rise, with smaller tributaries possibly reaching minor flood stage.

Today:

  • Showers off and on all day, but no widespread or significant flash flood concerns.
  • The Baton Rouge area has already received nearly ¼” of rainfall with an additional ¼” still in the forecast. 

Wednesday:

  • Widespread rain/storm chances increase going into Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Rainfall totals could reach 2.5” for Wednesday.
  • On top of heavy rainfall, there is a Marginal Risk of Severe Weather Wednesday into Wednesday night.
    • Risks include damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes.

Thursday:

  • Lingering scattered showers and thunderstorms Thursday into early Friday.
  • A little over 1” of rainfall is expected.
