Our first tropical system of the year is forming in the western Gulf of America. City crews have been out this morning conducting routine maintenance and inspections, and we have engaged additional contractors to address known drainage hot spots throughout the community.
We are expecting a rainfall event through the remainder of the week and will continue to closely monitor conditions. At this time, we do not see a significant threat from this system; however, rainfall amounts could be substantial over short periods of time, which may result in localized flooding.
For residents who wish to prepare, sand and sandbags are available at the old Lovett Road Ballpark in the rear parking lot. Please note that you will need to bring your own shovel to fill sandbags.
Residents can also monitor local water forecasts and conditions at EarlyFlows.com/Central.
This notice is intended to keep our community informed about conditions we are monitoring. Please use caution during periods of heavy rainfall and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways or areas experiencing flash flooding. Water depths can be deceptive and may cause vehicles to stall or become stranded.
If you encounter an emergency situation, please call 911. For Public Works concerns, contact the City of Central at (225) 262-5000 to report the issue.
Thank you, and please stay weather aware.
