There will be a single-lane closure Thursday, August 14th on eastbound Hooper Road near the bridge by Foster Road. We are sharing this update to help keep our citizens informed, as we know many of you travel this route regularly.

The traffic lights at Wax and Sullivan are now operating correctly.

Please try to avoid the intersection of Wax and Sullivan Road until the traffic light maintenance is finished.

Elissa Lane will be fully closed at the intersection of Highland Lake Avenue beginning Tuesday, August 12 starting at 7AM through Monday, August 25 ending at 5:00 PM due to construction.

"While we are flushing you may possibly experience lower pressure than normal and could have a tint in the water. If you use any water in your home during the posted flush times you may draw this water into your plumbing system. Toilets and hot water heaters have tanks that can keep this water around long after we are done. If you continue to have discoloration or cloudy water after the posted flush has ended, please let the cold water tap in your kitchen run for approximately 3-5 minutes. If the cold water in the kitchen is clear and the hot water and toilets still have a tint, they may require a brief flush. If any of these issues continue after the posted flush times, please call us at 225-925-2011."

It is now illegal to use a phone while driving in Louisiana unless it’s for hands-free calls or navigation.

The new law prohibits phone use during driving except for voice calls on hands-free systems and looking at a hands-free navigation system.

The law still prohibits texting and emailing even when the phone is paired to a remote system. It outlaws driving while “accessing, reading, viewing, composing, browsing, transmitting, saving, or retrieving electronic data” from any phone app unless it’s for voice calls or navigation.

The ban doesn’t apply to the use of a phone when the vehicle is stationary or when making calls to report traffic collisions or emergencies.

Drivers on Louisiana highways can only use the left lane for passing vehicles in the right lane. If you're driving 10 miles per hour below or even one mile per hour below the posted speed limit in the left lane of Louisiana highways, you can be issued a ticket.

This new law aims to reduce dangerous situations caused by slow-moving vehicles in the passing lane such as road rage, unsafe lane changes, and crashes.

There are some exceptions such as making a left-hand turn or moving over because of an emergency vehicle on the shoulder.
